Explore exercise, talks and workshops built around positive ageing! March 20 – Music, Movement and Healthy Ageing Alan Harvey is an Emeritus Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow in Human Sciences, the Perron Institute, Lions Eye Institute and the Conservatorium of Music. Learn about about brain circuits and neurochemistry involved in processing music, including emotional responses such as motivation and reward. The life-long and beneficial impact that music and exercise (dance) have on brain function, plasticity and memory will be discussed. March 27 – Sound Meditation Sound meditation uses soothing tones, vibrations and gentle soundscapes to support relaxation and mindfulness. In this session, you will experience a guided meditation accompanied by calming sounds that help quiet the mind and reduce stress.   April 10 – Chair Dancing Chair dancing is a fun and accessible way to stay active while enjoying music and movement. In this session, joing Paige from Lifespan Dance to learn dance movements designed to improve mobility, coordination and cardiovascular health.The session also encourages social interaction and shared enjoyment through music. April 17 – Artificial Intelligence with WA Institute of Data Science Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the way we live and work. Alex Jenkins from WA Institute of Data Science introduces the basics of AI - what AI is, how it works, and how it is already part of everyday life, from smartphones and voice assistants to healthcare and transportation. April 24 – Tai Chi in the Park Enjoy a gentle outdoor Tai Chi session designed to promote balance, flexibility and relaxation. Tai Chi is a slow, flowing form of movement that combines deep breathing, mindful awareness and controlled body movements. Practising in a park setting provides an opportunity to connect with nature May 1 – Volunteering Volunteering provides meaningful opportunities to contribute to the community while developing new skills and connections. This session explores the personal and social benefits of volunteering, including improved wellbeing, a sense of purpose and stronger community engagement. May 8 – Stay On Your Feet Falls prevention is an important part of healthy ageing. This workshop focuses on practical strategies to help reduce the risk of falls and maintain independence. The session provides useful tips and simple exercises designed to build confidence and support mobility in everyday life.
