Kaatijiin Screening

Friday 20th June 6.30-8.00

KAATIJIIN [KAHT-IH-JIN]: NOONGAR FOR ‘KNOWLEDGE’

Join us for a special screening of The Return

This local film explores the shared history between Noongar people and those who came from other countries to settle in Western Australia. The film tells the story of Yagan, a Noongar leader who stood up for his people and culture during the early years of colonisation. After his death, his remains were taken to the UK, where they were lost for more than a hundred years. The film follows the long search to find Yagan and the effort to bring him home — a story of persistence, cultural strength, and justice.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Kurin Minang, Dr Hannah McGlade, who will speak about the significance of Yagan’s story and what it means today.

$5 for members $10 for non members

Safer Speed Safer Street

Our local streets are where people live, work, move, play and connect. As part of the Perth Inner City Group (PICG)(External link), the Town of Victoria Park (the Town) is aiming to roll out slower speeds (40km/h) on all local access roads, to improve road safety.

Research shows that reducing speed on local access roads to 40km/h significantly reduces the severity of car crashes, therefore reducing the likelihood of fatalities. Further, a 20% reduction from 50km/h to 40km/h in speed results in a 200% increase in the likelihood of a person surviving a collision with a moving vehicle.

The Town aims to reduce the speed to 40km/h on all local access roads.   Main roads or distributor roads would be considered by Main Roads WA (MRWA) only by exception. MRWA are the lead agency for setting speed limits and determine the number and placement of speed signs on all streets and roads. Once approved, MRWA will work with the Town and wider PICG to plan the roll out of new 40km/h signs. This will likely take over 12 months to implement.

Reducing speeds on residential streets will make our neighborhoods safer for drivers, cyclists, kids and dog walkers, and support our community to live their best lives.

The Town is conducting a Survey on road safety in the Town and where you'd like to see slower speeds implemented through our community. Your feedback will help inform the future of this project.

Access more information and the Survey on the button below.
