What's On At The Hub 13/09/2024

Hello Everyone,

This year, we celebrate Active Ageing Week from 30 September - 4 October 2024. Active Ageing Week, launched by the International Council on Active Ageing in 2003, is an annual campaign celebrating the positive aspects of ageing. It highlights the abilities and contributions of older adults, and role models who lead the way.

The goal is to challenge negative perceptions of ageing by demonstrating that older adults can thrive in all aspects of life—physical, social, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, vocational, and environmental—regardless of age or health status. The campaign promotes wellness activities and exercise in a safe, supportive environment, encouraging healthy, active lifestyles as we age.

Discover What’s Available at the Village Hub!

For this year's Active Ageing week, we have a special expo planned at the Village Hub.

This expo will feature a variety of activities and specials, including the introduction of our new Connect 60+ program.

Highlights:

  • Launch of Active Ageing Week: Explore the specials and activities planned for the week.

  • New Connect 60+ Program: Learn about our 7-week program focusing on the Seven Dimensions of Wellness.

  • Class Trials: Try out some of our popular classes, including line dancing and Active for Life.

  • Demonstrations: Enjoy demonstrations by various Village Hub groups and instructors.

This event is proudly supported by Hannah Beazley.

Kaatijiin Film Screening - The Grey Line

This is the story of Helen’s struggle to find her place in the world.

Taken from her parents during a time when Aboriginal children were removed from their families through Government-mandated policy, Helen was raised by a middle-class family in the suburbs of Perth and believed she was their biological daughter until the age of 14.

This is her story of hurt, a longing to find her true self and to finally be accepted for who she is.

As part of the Town of Victoria Park's Kaatijiin Screenings, Connect Victoria Park will be hosting a film screening for "The Grey Line" on October 12, 5.30 pm. The Noongar word for knowledge, 'Kaatijiin' aims to give attendees an intimate and thought-provoking look into two very different tales of the Country and the people in it.

"Mammung" will also be screened on 13th September in the Vic Park Community Centre as part of Kaatijiin. You can find tickets on the following link:

Both films are locally made and have deep roots in truth-telling.  To book "The Grey Line" please click below:

Next week's Community Lunch on Tuesday, September 17 will be Apricot Chicken with Carrots, Broccoli and Potato Bake followed by Fruit and Custard.

Please book by Monday, September 16 on the following link:
