What's On At The Hub 8/11/2024

Hello Everyone,

WA Seniors Week 2024 runs from 10-17 November 2024, and recognises the important role that older people play in our community and celebrate their contributions. Each week brings us new opportunities to stay active, connect and explore new things. We hope you can join us in the coming weeks to try out something new at the Hub.

We had a wonderful Melbourne Cup Lunch this week - made possible only by our amazing volunteers. We also have some amazing photos taken by Dale, which you can check out on this blog post

Seniors Week High Tea - Volunteers Needed

We have our Melbourne Cup lunch on Tuesday, November 5th, and we need your help! We need volunteers to assist with set up and pack up

Please give us a call on 9361 2904 or send us an email if you would like to volunteer.

Storytelling and Chair Yoga Session

Our Connect 60+ programme next week takes on vocational wellness. Vocational welness is all about maintaining, improving or transferring skills, abilities and attitudes that help you or others stay productive and satisfied with the work we produce.

We start with a half an hour session of Chair Yoga followed by a storytelling session faciliated by Debra De Klerk. The storytelling session will explore storytelling starting with ourselves. Through stories we make meaning and find purpose and, importantly find a voice in our own lives.

Chair yoga offers gentle, accessible exercise that improves flexibility, balance, and strength, making it ideal for older adults or those with mobility challenges. It reduces stress, enhances mental focus, and can ease chronic pain. Practicing chair yoga supports joint health and boosts mood and overall well-being.

Session is on Friday November 15th, at 9.00am. You can book below:

Be Confident - Safety in Vic Park

On Nov 27, 11.15 am, a representative from the Town of Victoria Park Community Safety Team will be coming to inform us about the town's initiatives regarding community safety, including subsidies and programs. Additionally, they will provide updates on current crime statistics in the area, which may be unexpected.

Seniors Week High Tea

It's time to come together and celebrate! This year, we’re thrilled to invite you to a delightful High Tea celebration on November 14 at 2.00pm. Thanks to a Seniors Week grant from the Department of Communities, we are thrilled to offer this event completely free of charge!

We’ll also be unveiling a new short film created by 17-year-old Thomas Greenway, who completed his school community service program with us. The film features several Village Hub members and explores both the positive and negative aspects of ageing.

It's a fantastic opportunity for members to come together, share stories, and enjoy a delightful selection of pastries and fine teas.

Please RSVP promptly, as space is limited. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Next week's Community Lunch on 12 November is Grilled Fish, Chips and Vegetables followed by Chocolate Mousse.

Please book by Monday, 11 November on the link below:
