Connect With Home

Even before Covid hit, bringing the first recession in 30 years to Australia, there were more than 6000 older single women living in poverty and experiencing severe housing stress or homelessness in Western Australia. Older women have worked and cared for others all their lives, and yet they are the fastest growing group seeking assistance with housing.

Twelve women living under housing stress can now join Connect With Home, a project that will support them in investigating affordable and secure housing options, choosing what suits them and applying for it.

An Age-Friendly Communities project funded by the Department of Communities, Connect With Home is an initiative by Connect Victoria Park, a provider of affordable accommodation for people over 60 in Victoria Park.

To kick off the project, Wendy Morris, who has lived experience of housing stress, has done initial research on housing options in the cities of Belmont, Canning, South Perth and the Town of Victoria Park.

Starting August 26, 2020, Wendy will facilitate a group of 12 women in connecting and exploring housing options for themselves.

Women living under housing stress and interested in joining the project, can either call (08) 9361 2904 or email
